Make sure your medications are covered — without overpaying.
Medicare Part D helps cover the cost of prescription drugs, but not all plans cover the same medications at the same price. The difference between the right plan and the wrong one can mean hundreds of dollars per year. A Believers agent will review your current medications and find a Part D plan that covers everything you need at the best available cost.
We compare plans across top carriers. No cost or obligation.
What is a Medicare Part D plan?
Medicare Part D is optional prescription drug coverage offered through private insurance companies approved by Medicare. It is available as a standalone Prescription Drug Plan (PDP) for people who have Original Medicare or a Medicare Supplement plan, or it is bundled into most Medicare Advantage plans.
Part D plans use a formulary — a list of covered drugs organized into tiers that determine your copay or coinsurance. Different plans cover different drugs at different prices, which makes comparing plans based on your specific medications essential.
KEY BENEFITS
What you get with this plan.
Covers brand-name and generic prescription drugs
Protects you from catastrophic drug costs once you reach the out-of-pocket threshold
Plans from multiple carriers, giving you options for price and formulary
Extra Help program available for those with limited income and resources
Available as a standalone plan or bundled into most Medicare Advantage plans
Annual enrollment period lets you switch plans if your drug needs change
Who needs a Part D plan?
You should consider a Medicare Part D plan if you:
Take one or more prescription medications regularly
Have Original Medicare and do not have creditable drug coverage from an employer or other source
Have a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan — Medigap does not include drug coverage
Even if you do not currently take prescription medications, enrolling in a Part D plan when you first become eligible is strongly recommended. If you delay enrollment without other creditable coverage, you may face a late enrollment penalty added to your premium permanently.
How we help you choose the right plan
Not all Part D plans are the same. The most important factors to compare are:
Whether your specific medications are on the plan's formulary
The tier level of your drugs (which determines your copay)
Which pharmacies are in the plan's network
The monthly premium and annual deductible
Your estimated total annual cost based on your drug list
When you work with Believers Insurance, we run a drug-by-drug comparison across available plans using your current medication list. We will show you exactly what each plan would cost you for the year — not just the premium.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions.
Most Medicare Advantage plans already include Part D prescription drug coverage (called MA-PD plans). If your Medicare Advantage plan includes drug coverage, you do not need a separate Part D plan. We will confirm this when reviewing your coverage.
The coverage gap was a period in which some beneficiaries had to pay a higher share of drug costs. Due to the Inflation Reduction Act, the traditional coverage gap effectively closed in 2025, with out-of-pocket drug costs now capped at $2,000 per year. We will explain exactly how this affects your plan.
Yes. During the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7), you can switch Part D plans. Because drug formularies and pricing change each year, we recommend reviewing your plan annually to make sure it still offers the best value for your medications.
Extra Help (also called the Low Income Subsidy or LIS) is a federal program that helps people with limited income and resources pay for Part D costs, including premiums, deductibles, and copayments. We can help you check your eligibility and apply if you qualify.
